So recently nVidia has releaced an updated driver for its GeForce cards. With this new driver, when you try to play HL2 (or anything on the HL2 engine) will not play. You will recieve an error message saying that your hardware is not DirectX 7.0 compatable. The only solotion to this is to roll back the drivers, or download the prev. versions from the following sites
WinXP/2000 for GeForce: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-2k_archive.html (http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-2k_archive.html)
Win9x/ME for GeForce: http://www.nvidia.com/object/win9x_archive.html (http://www.nvidia.com/object/win9x_archive.html)
XP/2000 For nForce: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_winxp_archive.html (http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_winxp_archive.html)
Win9x/ME for nForce: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_win9xme_archive.html (http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_win9xme_archive.html)
I hope that this will releive/prevent some headaches for users.
