Here is my log. I put it on the site that Mitch suggested and they suggested getting rid of a couple of things that I felt I wanted to keep. Could someone else take a look and make some suggestions. This is on a P4 Asus Laptop running XP Home and the system is really slow lately.....

Nothing really nasty showing.
But you don't show the SP2 update, or a firewall.
You can enable windows built in firewall.

AOL is your service provider?

I would have HJT fix this entry:

O16 - DPF: {9522B3FB-7A2B-4646-8AF6-36E7F593073C} (cpbrkpie Control) - http://a19.g.akamai.net/7/19/7125/1...23/cpbrkpie.cab

The O16 entries are active-x programs.
Typically on-line virus scans show up there.
As well as games.
Unfortunately so do nasties.
If you don't recognize any others they can safely be removed.
None are necessary.
You can always download the active-x control again if desired.
So if you don't recognize worldwinner games , have hjt fix those.

Hi Frostyone: Thanks for looking at the log. I have been trying to get the machine cleaned up and backed up to put on SP2. I have the disk from Microsoft. Just a little nervous as some people are still having a few problems. When I am home we are networked with Linksys wired network so I haven't enabled the XP firewall. Our service provider is Bell High Speed but we use AOL for 3 months when we winter in Florida and any other time that we travel. I could remove it if you think it may be slowing things down since I have AOL cancelled right now and could install it again if I needed to. I will remove the one you suggested. I do recognize Worldwinner games as I play there sometimes. Thanks again.

You can check start up items by typing MSCONFIG in the run box. Under the Startup tab uncheck unnecessary apps. such as NeroCheck, WinZip, QuickTime etc.

Thanks Lynda.
I was puzzled by the the sympatico start page and the AOL connection :)

You do show several AOL components actively running.

AOLACSD.EXE AOL Connectivity Service - starts an automatic function that restores the connection should you lose it while online.

and this service running

America Online, Inc. - C:\WINDOWS\wanmpsvc.exe

I would NOT use HJT to fix these however.

It would be far better (safer) to use add/remove programs to uninstall the AOL program entirely , rather than use HJT's piece meal approach.

Why AOLACSD.EXE is checking for a connection, or what it does, when it fails to see a connection to AOL I don't know.

I'm not familiar with AOL at all, but it is possible there is a problem with the AOL components running while not connected to the AOL service.
