I realize the EnerGuide Canada number (898 kWh/per year in my case) is supposed to be used to compare one dryer or appliance to another and is some sense a relative number, but can I multiply it by the cost /kWh that I pay to get an approximate cost of running it for a year. I realize the usage may vary from household to household and therefore produce different results, but does anyone know if the number bears any relationship to real usage or is just a test number with the test, while the same for every dryer, not bearing any real world comparison? I tried to Google it but came up with nothing on what the test actually tested.

Thanks Dr Dan
I quess the answer to my question is yes...it is a rough estimate of real usage.

Yes, electricity consumption for billing is measured in kWh.

You might want to find out what the test criteria is; i.e. how many loads per year.

Just remember that the regulated price plan rate of 5.8cents/kwh does not including distribution, debt retirement, loss factor charges, etc. Last time I calculated it, it came to roughly $0.11/kWh in Ontario for those who don't have a smart meter or a private plan. (ex: direct energy)

Thanks AMD...I tried, unsucessfully, to find test criteria...thanks for the $00.11/kWh figure.

np. That figure may vary from municipality to municipality.
