IT was about 3 days ago.. Saturday I believe, when I'm working at my local Future Shop, and then my manager, hands off a customer to me to help him find a mouse and router..
Well, I take it as a usual customer, ask them how they are doing and stuff like that, but since he had a piece of paper and handed it to me, I didn't really look him in the eye. So hearing his voice, I was like, hmm, sounds familiar.. And then he mentioned owning a Computer store and used to be the host of a TV show.
So then I turn around, and there he was, Les, asking me for help :)
Probably not the biggest deal, but I mean, I used to watch TCM every sunday back in the day when it was on more..
And then suddenly, here he is, buying a mouse and a router from me :P
Well, I thought it was cool!
I hope you're enjoying your mx510 and your SMC router Les :)
Hopefully I was a decent sales person :)
Thanks for your business :)
Hope you gave him a tip Les? :d

It is funny that the owner of this forum owns a computer store; I believe. I wonder why he went to FutureShop to buy computer parts?
I thought also that if you own a computer store, then you do not shop at big name retailers.
just my $0.02 cents!

why was Les shopping at Future Shop when he owns his own store? Don't they give you a discount there Les? :)

He was there.
He was buying a router and a mouse.
He wanted the mx1000...
But we sell for under wholesale price sometimes.

Oh I know he has his own store.
But every store has a wholesaler.. right?
And the wholesaler prices are usually really good, like 58 bucks for an LG 16x DVD burner stuff like that. I work for a computer store outside of Future Shop, so I know all about whole saler prices... BUT, Future Shop buys things by the thousands, lets say, they buy 10 000 MX1000 mice, wholesale is lets say, 80 bucks. They buy 10 000, but get a discount and actually gets them all for 50 a piece, so that's 30 less than a wholesaler... They sell 9000 of those mice at 119.99 + tax, so you'd have lets say.. 9000 x $137.99 = 1,241,896.50 dollars made from these mice, subtract what it cost them to buy it, 9000 x $50 = $450,000. then they probably give the company a % so like 10% of what they made, $79,189.65. So they end up giving the company (in this case Logitech) $529,189.65, which leaves FS with $712,706.85 bucks in the bank.
When that happens, they can afford to retail the mouse at a sale price that is under the wholesale price for a regular store, like TCM, which is in turn why Les and his wife ended up coming to FS to pick up a mouse / router kit that he couldn't get from his own store at that price.
Simple as that.
I'm a little bored and tired, so I figured I'd bust out the financial math :)
Actually, we were there getting my BenQ Lightscribe dvd writer exchanged for the model made by HP. Les just wandered off on me, he's the proverbial "kid in the candy store" when it comes to those "big" stores :)

I get my computer parts at less than retail too but just let me loose in one of those big pc or Mac stores and I go crazy, probably because it doesn't happen very often. :)
