For as long as I can remember most pictures and videos played on my system come across as being very dark (in brightness). I realize this could have something to do with my videocard. Is there a fix (adjustment) I can try before I think about getting a new card?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Before trying a new video card, (possible unnecessary expense) check it with a different monitor if possible. Mine has been somewhat dark for some time now and a new video card didn't help. You may find that the monitor is simply going...mines only a couple years old.

I have to agree with Mander on this one.
I have yet to find a video card being the cause of a dim screen.
if the brightness adjustment is all the way up the monitor is on
its way out. taking it in for service will be costly and will only
result in a short term fix as most places will just turn up the sub
bright on the main board.

could be time to get a new one.

It only happens when I watch a video, online, or some pictures (not all) They come across as being too dark. I can adjust the pictures on photo shop. Everything else is fine. I'll try swapping monitors (I have an old 15" in good shape.)

Thanks for the advice.

If you adjust pictures to lighten them because your monitor is dark, they will be washed out when you view them on another monitor or if you print them.

and when editing I bring it back up so the pictures will look good to all
the others.

Go into the display settings and reset the colour and brightness settings to default.

This happens to me as well with my 9100. But I use my monitor (Dell P991) and adjust the color scheme using the OSD and it actually makes the videos brighter and a lot better looking. If not suggested already try looking for an option on your monitors OSD to adjust the color scheme.

As AMD said and work from there, if your monitor has manual controls set them to default as well. You may need to update your drivers too.

You may want to chech your viewer program properties to see if there is any adjustment possible there.

I have my monitor set up just the way I like for desktop, image editing etc. Any time I used Windows media player to view mpeg/avi etc, they were always about half the brightness of what I normally want.

Ended up using a media program that came with my video card which allowed adjustment of brightness/contrast/gamma etc. so that I didn't have to change monitor settings to view mpegs.
