Statistically they say that 1 in 6 kids will suffer some form of sexual abuse....at least according to an ad I saw on tv yesterdat. Anyone else see this, I am assuming was a public service message?

It is sad that it is 1 in 6. Just wondering where they get that statistic. What are the age groups, what is considered sexual abuse and what form of sexual abues (whether it be rape, molestation or underaged sex) None of it is right however it would be nice to know what and where so that certain forms if it can certainly be educated towards kids (ie:a trusted family member, a priest, a stranger et al).
I have said it before and I will say it again. Parents need to talk to their kids regarding these issues so that they are aware of these potential situations and how to deal with them. We as parents have to remember that children view the world with unprejudiced eyes and are very trusting. I can vouch for that being that I am a 1 in 6 statistic. What's worse is my family (at the time) did what any parent from the old school did.....brush it under the carpet and hope it all goes away. So really....what did anyone other than myself learn? I'll tell you....a hard lesson on life that any child should not have to go thru alone.
