View Full Version : How does one go about getting info about a person overseas in regards to selling?

A friend has apparently ordered a couple chihuahuas from a guy named Marshall Wenong from Yaounde, Camaroon.
She was told she didn't have to pay until she saw the dogs when they arrived in Toronto. That in itself, seems scammish to me, even though he hasn't asked for cash, yet.
It's being flown in from Yaounde-Nsimalen Airport.
The site he had given her in regards to tracking was http://www.pettransport.ripod.com which I think should have been http://www.pettransport.tripod.com instead but it doesn't exsist.
When payment is to be made, she is to send it to Leubja Maxime Cameroon Yaounde +237 which I can't find info about either.
Any thoughts or ideas as to how to get more info about this?

My first question would be...why not buy locally...secondly, do they have all of the proper shots in the first place to even be allowed here? Importing animals can be a scary process. If they are not out any money at all at this point...tell them just to forget it....lesson learned. There are breeders locally that will sell vet checked animals. JMO

+1
however, I don't really see a problem YET.
If she inspects them as I assume she is going to do, and the dogs get a clean bill of health and make positive they got necessary shots, she pays, transaction is smooth and finished.
If she doesn't like the dogs, and/or something is wrong, send them back upon expense of the individual who sent them originally. I suppose?
ps. none of those links worked.

First read up on rabies in the Cameroon and consider the import restrictions on animals from rabies-endemic countries.
Then consider...
http://www.hoobly.com/0/0/305969.html
http://www.poloniainfo.com/chihuahua-dog-scam.html
Now, give me an hour on Google and I could find all sorts of adorable chihuahua pics too.
And I think I still have a free webspace somewhere to "set up shop".
Next...
Find a reputable breeder closer to home.

The quarantine period could be prohibitive when you have to pay the room & board for your precious bundles.
The term "false economy" comes to mind.
Check out some breeders here if she absolutely must have purebred.
Then do some research on puppy mills, if they are that willing to send puppies all over the world and put them through that trauma for a buck they are most likely pupply mills. Read what reputable breeders here offer with a puppy, blood lines, health guarantees, proper socialization etc.
Pets are a long committment and responsibility, having an properly socialized, and well behaved animal that isnt sickly (vet's are expensive) all it's life is worth the time and effort, you can get that at a breeder and/or a shelter.
Really bad idea in my opinion, and just asking for trouble.
It requires some thought, it's not just a pair of shoes you can throw away if you find you dont like them.

Maybe it's me, but I wonder why people come to the Board after-the-fact??
I know in this case it's not a Board member doing the ordering, but that is not always true.

Good point, because it's a done deal, our input is moot.
However he's really only asking how to find info on said 'breeder'.
Thats true Tess.
i guess in this case none of our responses were helpful, because this is after the fact, If she doesnt have to pay a dime till she sees the puppy doesnt seem like a scammish thing to do. When she see's them in Toronto she will and she can pay. If they dont make it to toronto then she doesnt have to pay.. right?
I think some are, the quarantine thing may be of huge importance, because if there is a quarantine, she'll most likely pay for that boarding and upkeep during it as a part of dealing with customs.

Wow, I need to catch up. Never got any emails about getting replies. :(
Dazed, the thing that irks me is that this guy is willing to spend a few huindred dollars to send them to T.O. with the chance of the dogs getting rejected where he then has to spend more to bring them back. That doesn't sound right at all. As for the links, sorry, shoulda mentioned that. That's the other reason why I think it's fishy.
Just Doug, I told her a few times to look around here again.
They already have a pit bull & a chihuahua from around here.
Tess, they know about the pubby mills. Her mom has had a few different pitbulls as well in the past. Both current dogs are just big babies.
Mousey, I just found out myself shortly before I posted actually. She had asked me to help get more info on this.
Nave, that's the part that doesn't make sense. She was told, if she likes what she sees, she only pays $290 total. So why is the guy going to spend a few hundred just to make a few hundred?

When I brought my dog back with me from the UK over 10 years ago..
It cost me 160.00 for the flight.. (that didn't include the shipping crate)
There was also no need for the pup to be quarantined as the UK was rabies free
I just find it strange that they they would pay to ship on the chance she may say no

If you look at the page source data, you will find that it was written specifically for this "sale" and is not any form of order tracking page I've ever seen.
A reputable dealer would make transaction details available only to the purchaser.
I'm sure that the intended purchaser is just thrilled having their name and home address posted for the world to see on a Tripod site.
I wonder how many similar scams they will now be the target of?

That's what I wondered about as well. I use the netcraft toolbar which also gives me info about websites that I view and it didn't have much.

Your best bet to get a puppy would be to check out www.petfinder.com or the local shelter.
Never buy anything live from overseas like that.

Hi and Welcome
Across the top of the page you'll see a USER CP (Control Panel)
In there you will find a section called AVATAR, upload one from your hard drive from there.
Have you tried local breeders? Here in Canada I searched for Breeders of Persian Cats through the Cat Fanciers (there is also a Dog Fancier) In the states I believe it's networked through American Dog Breeders Association.
I found a wonderful breeder outside of London, Ont. (less than 200 miles away). I wouldnt however commit to anything unless I could see the animal and meet the breeder.

Do not order antthing from marshall wenong AKAJames or post any money through moneygram or money transfers, mr wenong scammed me out of £300 last december when i ordered a so called "chihuahua" from him! It's a huge scam and he is found on many different websites wanting money sent to the cameroon but he uses different adds and names, i have so far found him selling rare birds and chihuahuas, if you are going to send him money stop now you will receive no chihuahua, i was devastated and i don't want anybody else going through the same thing as me, probably best to find a breeder and speak to them in person. Please don't let him scam you aswell
thankyou
yours sincerely
