Hey all,
I have been looking at the new Pearl and I really like it. I would like to use it only as a phone and for its calender and organization tools. I don't really want to use it for the email or internet purposes. Is it worth it for me to get this?
Thanks.

That is up to you because there are a lot of products that do that. I'd say why not? The only question is, is it worth it for you?

Does anyone here have this?
I am wondering how convenient is the datebook function...easy to enter/check items?
I also like the feature that it has mp3 and mp4 capability
The other thing is does Rogers have just a voice plan for their Blackberries or do you HAVE to get a voice/data plan?
Thanks.

I have it but through my company. I'm sure they just have a voice plan. I personally don't like suretype and therefore would prefer a full keypad like an 8700 has but it is intuitive to use if you have half a brain.

The feature with the maps: Is that built-in or do you have to go online each time to do a search?

It downloads the maps whenever you need it, so yes you must have a BB Data plan at that point.

does the pearl come with ability to edit word or excel doc's on it or just open them?
Can I create a new document on it and save it?

Sounds like your opening up your original limitation to other uses.
At first I thought it would be over-kill, but you would be upwardly mobile if you did buy one.

I went to a Rogers video store and they did not have a model that I could look at and the website for the pearl is more flash than information, so I am just trying to find out as much info as I can...

You can only open documents and excel files when they come in an email. You cannot create a document on the BlackBerry and then save it. You also can't edit any documents.

So I went and got the pearl yesterday....just on a voice plan. Better than the family plan I was on before.
I gotta say this phone is pretty nice. It is so small it hides behind my last phone: Motorola V220. Nice and light too.
Thanks for all your help Mischief007! If I need some more help I know where to go :)
