A brilliant movie!!
Forget seeing that remake of the grade "B" Regan era TV show you watched when you were 10... Buy/rent the DVD of Kung Fu Hustle instead!!!
I'm going to get it tomorrow and enjoy maybe the most funny movie I have EVER seen! (Unless the company releasing it here in North America decides to screw around with it & totally messes it up... A nasty habit some of the larger entertainment companies can't seem to break - especially with foreign films.)
To anyone who didn't see it in it's initial release earlier this year, a couple of important notes:
#1. The movie is totally weird! But I mean that as a compliment. It's like nothing you've ever seen before!
#2. It's in Mandarin Chinese with English subitles (don't worry, it doesn't make the movie less enjoyable; And the DVD will probably have an English dubbed track.)
#3. While not absolutely necessary, it helps to get some of the more subtle jokes if you understand some of the clichés of kung fu films.
and #4. Believe it or not, the Land Lady (actress, Yuen Qiu) was once a Bond Girl!! From what I've read, she was in, "The Man with the Golden Gun."
