chopping dates - Use food processor?

If I use my food processor to chop dates will they turn to complete mush? Does anyone have any other suggestions to make this gooey job any quicker? Have any of you used a food processor to chop dates?

I think it would turn in to a mess and foul the blade.
cutting by hand is the best way.
