Hey all, glad to see the board back up and running. I just wanted to throw out a couple questions for anyone with answers:

- I'm going to buy a new computer soon, and am strongly leaning toward pci-express. Do I have to have a video card immediately? Like, I see that if it was agp, I could choose onboard video and buy a card a little later, but there is no option for pci-e.

- I will probably upgrade from Rogers Highspeed Express to Extreme; I have a Terayon modem so will I need a new one for the new service or will this modem suffice?

Thanks.

You don't say what type of processor you're looking for. There are boards with pci-express that have integrated video - seem to be more in the Intel boards or AMD socket 754.

As for Rogers, you will have to get a new modem if that one's not docsis 2 compliant. (Don't know if there are and Terayon modems that are).

Go for PCI-Express if you ever plan on replacing the video card.

Oh, it will be the Asus A8N-E for an AMD Socket 939. I emailed the store I plan to buy from about having to buy a video card right away and here was the response:

"We do require a video card to be purchased with a system as we cannot properly run the system without one. Without a card, we cannot boot the system, nor test it, so we cannot warranty it. This is why there is no selection for "none" under the video cards."

The only reason I wanted to know is because they are sold out of the card I want, and I want to buy the computer soon :) .

?
No system will POST successfully without video card/chip.

Specifications for the A8N-E at the following, LINK (http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=A8N-E&langs=09)

Alright, so I guess I'll have to wait for the video card to come back into stock.

Thanks.
