When I startup my computer with my webcam pluged in and try to use it, my computer will restart. The only way for me to use it, is to unplug it and plug it back in when I'm logged in. Can anybody tell me why it would just restart the computer? And is there a way that I don't need to unplug it and plug it back in at all for the webcam to work? Thanks.

Maybe you dont have the right drivers install?

IRQ conflict most likely. USB or parallel port connection?
If USB try another USB port and reboot.
If that doesn't work, uninstall the webcam drivers, disconnect the cam, reboot, then reboot again. Connect the cam, install updated drivers, reboot.
That might help.

I got the correct drivers. It's USB. It was working before, until this morning. I will try what you said Bogie. Hopefully it will work. And this computer, has one USB in front. And 4 in the back. The webcam gets moved a lot, therefore I unplug it a lot. I will try using the same USB port.
If you have a VIA chipset, make sure that the USB controller(s) isn't (aren't) sharing an IRQ with any major device. (especially sound/video card + IDE host)

VIA chipset is the chip that is located on the card.

the only known via issues are for the VIATECH 3038 USB host controlers found on some older win9x systems. MS has updates on the Knoledge base, but cant think of the art# off the top of my head

I heard the chipsets that have issues are VT6202, VT6212 and VT8235

Hmm, my computer is really having some problems, right now. All I did was restart, and it worked like how it worked before. But now there is something wrong with my WMP, not because of the webcam. Check out the thread in the Software Help section.

No it isn't - I was referring the North Bridge, South Bridge and other integrated components of motherboards.
