:tch: :tch:
I am embarrased to ask this question as I should know the answer but.......
I have on my computer ITunes, Shareaza, Music Match, and then my sharred documents : My Music. My question is: If I have all my music in all of these programs does it mean that I have the same music file taking up 4 times the amount of space? Or is it just saved as one file on my computer?
Thanks
Sue

If you have a music file (same music piece for example), in 4 different places, then you have 4 different files - not one. Computers don't know any different. If you tried to save a music file in MP3 format, for example, named identically, into the same folder, then the computer would ask if you want to replace the existing file or rename the new one.

LOL ... I did a search of my hard drives (I have 3) the other day, trying to find a certain image, and found out that I had 54 of the same image in various folders/drives. That's what happens when you are doing constant backups and forget .... and when building a new computer and adding old drives to new ones.

135GB of many years of data. All backed-up, but scrambled over time. Anything current is organized, but old stuff is "seek and find".

Good advice for Suba57, and that program looks good. Name sounds/looks familiar.

Maybe, someday, I'll clean things up .... :tch: .... on second thought, I'll leave well-enough alone ;)
