I am setting up/upgrading a computer for a friend and co-worker of mine. I am restoring her outlook express e-mails and all is working fine. I also installed filters for her frequent contacts.
When I connect up, it appears that 500 plus e-mails are on the way.
Can anyone please recommend a good free spam filter?
Thanks for the help!:vxd:

I have yet to find a good free one, I use Oulook 2003 nice spam filter but I still find myself having to manually scan them to be sure they are not killing a important one.
Rogers does a bulk thing , so a message rule sometimes help

I use MailWasher Pro (http://www.mailwasher.net/). Like any filter system, it takes a bit of time to train, but works great! Works by previewing email at the server level, before it reaches your computer.

Bogie, you suggested that a month ago so I looked into it. After a month, all the spam is listed as spam. All I have to do is hit the button for Process mail. It deletes the spam off the server and then open OE for me. This is a fantastic program. Thank-you. :d
mailwasher has a free version which isn't bad
also look at
popfile - http://popfile.sourceforge.net/
I used to use it
Now I have filters and rules in OE6, Norton antispam and have rules set up at the server level for m ISP (rogers). I also have it set up at the server level not to download any emails that the rogers server thinks is spam. It will put them into the webmail "bulk" folder. I find that having multiple levels of protection works best although its a bit of a pain to get it all set up at first.

The pro version is better than the free it allows more addresses and a few more options

I used popfile not long ago but it was taking so long to connect and look for new mail when I opened OE that I got too impatient and got rid of it, will look into mailwasher pro however

Best program I've found. Wouldn't be without it! I have 32 email accounts, and without MailWasher all I would be doing is sorting and deleting email. Combined with the SpamAssassin on my various domains on the servers, it takes care of any headaches I would have. Glad you like it dbusguy!
