well in the begining i thought the xbox 360 had an hd dvd player in it but i guess not lol. well i guess this isnt a question about the drive itself but, does it not play all dvd's? i hear on commercials that some dvd's come in HD, but when i go to pick them up i dont see them and think that they are all just in HD. still deciding wether or not to get this, little pricey.

i don't understand what u are saying but the hd-dvd player will play all hd dvd movies as they are continueing to come out along with your old dvd collection..it will play as far as i heard dvd+r's/-r's and dvd+r dl unsure on those..as far as pricey nah not really take into affect that a hd dvd player from toshiba will cost u $699.99 and up where this is $199.99 with a hd dvd king kong movie and a universal remote as well..downside only plays movies up to 1080i

well ill have to wait for someone else to buy it then ill think about it lol, and my tv only goes up to 1080i anyways so thats good
You can play your old DVDs on the player and yes some movies come with the HD version and the regular version that you can pplay on a regular dvd player. Look at the top of the case it will say DVD /HD DVD if it has both version of the movie.

The eject button on the remote or on the player? If you mean the remote the its simple. The eject button on the remote is for the 360.

yeah but its supose to be able to eject the dvd player as well
But then wouldnt it eject both at the same time? Maybe you havent programmed it to? But i think its only for the 360 not the HD player.

i guess so but in the hd dvd book it says it will eject if the button is pushed..i might have to call xbox on this one...
Did the player come with an installation disk? also you might have to reprogram the remote now that you have the player installed so that it will recognize it.

if you have xbox live then your 360 will have been updated to support the hddvd drive, and the cd bar at the bottom of the dashboard will work to eject the hddvd or the 360's dvd drive (you can choose which to operate on the bar itself (from what I remember reading about the fall update)

Read this. Its very interesting , about the HD DVD addon for the 360. Looks like you dont even need a 360 to use it!. Try doing that with your Blu Ray player on your PS3 which Sony forces on their fans.......

Why would you get one if you don't have an HD TV?

one thing im getting a little annoyed with...different movies are coming out on Blue Ray than HD DvD, and it seems all the ones i want are coming out on Blue Ray and not HD DVD, SIGH....all these old movies are coming back in hd which dont even look as good, i bought we were soldiers and it didnt even look hd, then theres king kong, DROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
I think that for their to be a difference the movie has to have been shot in HD. So a movie like King kong would look great, Star wars (the new ones) should look amazing. but older movies wont look better.

Actually, 35mm film has a much higher resolution than 480 lines so even many older movies would look better in HD. However, they need lots of cleaning because the defects would also be visible.

Welcome to the beautiful world of 2 different High Definition DVD standards, where the consumer has to loose the most and the manufacturers gain the most.
I cant beleive you bought nacho libre.......
But yeah i heard talladega nights is on blue ray which is itty, but superman is on both formats and then some other movie i cant recall is only HD DVD.
that kind of stuff sucks.
I noticed more movies i want are on or comming ot HD DVD though but there are a few on BR only.

2007 will be the year of the multi format HD players. I saw something on G4's Attack of the Show (yesterday) about this, LG is well-known for their multi format recorder/player devices, and they are working on a player that can play both HDDVD and Blu-ray. I have no idea what it will cost but its still pretty cool.

That has been discussed to death already at CES 2006. There are statement in the license agreement of both format disallowing the combination of both technologies into one. This is not a technical issue, but a legal one. Samsung originally promised a dual-format player, but had to abandon the idea because it was legally impossible.

VHS and Beta, for those of you who are old enough to remember.
I suspect the solution will be to have two standalone dvd players, once the blue ray players come down in price. The good thing is that regular dvd players are quite inexpensive now, even the hd players.
You can also consider making your own dual format player by building a multimedia pc for your tv with both hd and br drives installed. I believe Exmortis is the resident expert on this.

I link the following as proof that it is not legally impossible.

I look forward to LG's offering, as I have yet to have a lemon of any of their products.

You think?

Nate Mook and Tim Connealy have seen the LG "Super Multi Blue" player, and have devastating news: It's not as "Full HD" as you might think.
Chances are, it may actually be a violation of licensing agreements for a manufacturer to juxtapose one logo next to the other (as we learned last year when the issue first came up).
This is a big deal, fellows, because it indicates that everything that was left out of the initial LG press release, was left out for a reason.
LG has yet to resolve all the legalities around their model. It WILL NOT be on the market until that happens.
Keep hoping... Got something else up your sleeve?

Well, go buy that LG then.

Then see for yourself if you think I'm 100% wrong.

The Xbox 360 itself does play DVD's with no add ons that you must buy.
