I have been shopping for a LCD television and looking to spend under $1000.00. My question is there are quite a few at futureshop and bestbuy as well other places that have them and I am just wondering what I should look for. It will be used only for regular cable TV but I would like to get one that gives me the best quality for what i am paying.
I just have no idea what to look for and I would like the best picture I can get for what it is being used for.
Any suggestions would be greatfull.

Regular cable will not come close to utilizing the newer capabilities. 300 lines, tops for regular cable.

Get a big tube, and save your money.

Go with a standard CRT TV then. You will need either HD Cable or Satellite for good picture quality on an LCD.

BTW, if you have space constrains, and have the money, then go for it.

But just be aware this will not 'cure' regular cable.

Until you go HD, that is. ;)

Yeah it is more for space constraints because it is for an office and will have to hang on a wall. Plus it gives the option to go digital later. I just want to make sure that the LCD I get has the things I need for the day we all go digital. I have heard of things like refresh rate, Digital Focus, and a few others. I know with paying under $1,000.00 it won't be the best but there are some LCD's that have some of these options or different options. Is there any particular thing I want to insure I have.

Best describe your size requirements, then some other members could weigh in on the subject.

Bought a 32" Westinghouse LCD at BB a while back. It's just great and no problems so far.

We just got an Acer 37" - 1920 x 1080 resolution from Zellers for a grand total of just under $1000. Looks great (using it right now from the comp connected via dvi - lol 37" worth of TCM!). I don't have an hd cable box for this yet, but will be mostly watching sd tv recorded on the comp from the digital cable box. It looks surprisingly good (we have a very clean feed generally) - a lot better than our old Toshiba 43" rear projection. You'll get a better picture from a digital cable box.
You want to see what connections are available and compare with what you need or will need in future (this one has hdmi, dvi, pc vga, 3 component, not sure how many s-video). Look at the sets to see which has the most pleasing (bring a dvd to try).

Lots of good info here:

for the price of LCD and Plasmas these days, its almost a better choice to buy that, over a CRt Tube, since they are few and far between now, and the larger units are still pricy.
