I need up upgrade my Divx...having trouble viewing videos.
Someone recommended uninstalling the old version and then downloading and installing a newer version from www.divx.com.
How do I uninstall?
Can I just install newer version over old version?

Hi dbusguy.. just go into control panel, add/remove programs, and uninstall DivX player.. download the new one, and it install it. As a rule it is always better to uninstall the old software off the machine before installing a newer version.. avoids a mess. :)

You don't even have Divx player then... so just install it...

ok, that's what I was thinking...but wanted confirmation.
I kind of thought it was included with power dvd.
Guess that's why I'm having trouble watching it.
Lips out of sync and picture freezes.
Someone else that's watching the same video has no problems and suggested the upgrade.
I'll give it a try.
Thanks Doc.

It's all in the codecs.... so this may or may not solve your issue...

OK, I downloaded and installed divx. It caused many problems. once I installed it, I would click a file to watch, as the program was opening to watch it with, I would get a couple of errors, my folder window would close, and the program would lock up.
It was mentioned to me elsewhere that the problem might be that divx requires a PIII 800 to run. I'm doing this on my laptop which is a PII 466.
Oh well,

Try using FFDshow as it decodes divx, xvid and a lot of other codecs using direct X. This uses much less resources compared to the official divx and xvid codecs that don't. So you might be able to see the divx file on your PII 466.

ok, I removed the divx as it caused problems.
If I was to try FFDshow, would I have to install divx again?
Do you have a link for FFDshow?
Ya ya, I know....http://www.emotipad.com/newemoticons/Google.gif

If you install FFDshow you don't need to install divx again as FFDshow will be the codec. You can get FFDshow at www.free-codecs.com

Thanks, I'll try that on the weekend when I have time and see if it works.
