Hello ... I purchased a home made computer a little while ago and it worked fabulous. I was very happy with it. After awhile, I noticed the system would restart after using it for a couple of hours. I have a busy household and a computer is usually on from the first thing to the end of the night. I did notice when the system would restart that the temperature would be anywhere between 135 to 150 from the usual 73-75 when I first start it up. When its hot outside and system will go down much faster than when its a bit cooler outside.
I mentioned this to the guy that made it and he said that he overclocked the system and all of that stuff. He did not seem overly concerned and didn't want to look at it.
The system has a lot of those funky lights with the open side and a few fans, which are working. The increase of temperature is the only thing that is out of place from the usual working.
Could someone please advise me.
P.S... where do I find the specs to post? the system is laid out much different than what i am used to.
Thank you.

Post results after checking your specs. Download Everest here, its free:

Fahrenheit or Celsius? CPU or case temp?
Ask the guy to set it back to stock speeds and clean the processor heatsink - and tell us who sold you the computer so others don't make the same mistake.
What kind of idiot would knowingly sell an overclocked system with insufficient cooling?!

That has to be farenheit. But take it back to stock speeds, and as AMD says clean er up. But, I did have a system in which would randomly restart due to dust in the AGP slot!

Utilities are notorious for inaccuracy - if you're not comfortable opening the system and/or changing the BIOS settings, take it to someone who is.
According to what is listed, the processor is not overclocked. (that is, if it's a 3200+ XP)

Having a whole bunch of fans does not guarantee a cool system. Any fans in the top of the system should be blowing out hot air and any fans in the bottom should be drawing cool air in. You should also remove the fan on your processor heatsink and blow out the dust and crud with a can of compressed air. If the system has been overclocked, it wouldn't hurt to clean off the old thermal paste on the processor and apply a small dab of new paste.

AMD Athlon XP's do run hot. If you are using the original heat sink fan (HSF) that sits on top of your CPU it might not be enough to cool it down. Might be an option to get a third party HSF that will do a better job.
