I am having some trouble getting my DVD-ROM drive to read store bought DVDs. It reads CDs and even reads my burned DVDs (verbatim DVD+R with purple bottom) but it's when I try to put a normal silver bottom DVD in the drive that it says the drive is busy and then in my computer changes from

DVD/CD-RW drive (D:)
to

CD drive (D:) and then the icon says DVD-ROM, but not the name of the DVD like it used to or even a menu asking what to do. The drive is the Samsung in my sig (the only CD/DVD drive I have).

Make sure that you have the appropriate software to play DVDs - maybe autorun isn't working and you need you open WMP manually.

Thanks for the info, I tried opening it manually in My computer and it shows nothing on the disk, almost like it's a blank CD. I also have been able to play these DVDs before as i have the correct software/drivers. Do you think perhaps the laser isn't strong enough to read them anymore or does it take more power to read CDs?

You could try a drive cleaning kit - I'm not sure if they work well.

Open Windows Media player and try to play a DVD manually. (file -> open)
