I'm planning to get a cell phone from Pac Mall, one of the independent stores, I was just wondering how do I tell if the cell phone has locked features. aside from the obviously answer, by asking.

also, anything I should look out for? since it's those stores I'm dealing with, I know they most likely wont' have any warrantly on the phone, I should check the phone right in the store, right?

Don't know much about the warranty in these stores.

It's not so much that a phone has locked features. They are usually locked to a provider like Bell, Rogers,.....

If you buy an unlocked phone that takes a SIM card you should be able to use it with a card from any provider.

so I shouldn't have any problems, just to double check if it's locked to a provider. alright, thanks!

anything else I should look out for? acturally, anyone purchase a phone at one of those places before?

It's not that easy. I bought overseas an unlocked Motorola and even though it is unlocked it still says Swisscom. The only way (that I know of) is to try it with the SIM card and see if it works.

Recently I bought an unlocked Razr on Ebay and I had it programmed by the guy for Cingular Service. It's still unlocked but it lets me take advantage of all the features from Cingular.
