I recently upgraded my system to an Asus A8V motherboard. I have an AMD 3000+ CPU. I have 1gig of memory.

How large of a hard drive can I upgrade to? I have an 80 gig running now. The MB can take 2 SATA drives. I don't know much about them.

Should I upgrade to your regular IDE drives or go to the SATA drives. I don't know if one is better than the other. Do I have to use 2 SATA drives at the same time? Maybe I am getting mixed up but as you can figure out I am new to the AMD system and SATA drives.

Thanks,

Felix

sata uses a smaller cable and is tech faster.

in the real world most of the time its around the same speed as a ide drive but the smaller cable does come in handy.

you can get the biggest drive thats amde if you want as theres no size limit on that board.

ps..there are certain sata drives like the sata raptor which do run like a bat out of hell.

Also make certain 48-bit LBA mode is supported by your OS. If your running XP you will be fine. If running Windows 2000 you will have to do some registry editing.
