Hi, I hope someone will help me here! My friends puter has Win 98 on it and it has stopped loading, Its a P2 Agp. I would like to delete it but I am not sure how. I went into control panel , add/remove, but win 98 is not listed there to remove.
Is there another way without formatting the HD,As he has very important files on it from work.
Any Help is appreciated
thanks....

You could transfer all his files to another hdd, format the original, install a new OS and transfer the files back.

You are in luck my friend. Windows 98 can be reinstalled over itself without issues. Best idea though would be to back up the files on a cd first.
Get a win98 bootdisk www.bootdisk.com and boot the system using this. When asked, insert the 98 cd and reinstall to the c:windows folder. That was the ONLY nice thing about using 98.

Hi Mander, yeah I know you can reinstall 98 over itself, unfortunately , we don't have the orginal disk that it was installed from.
Any other ideas???

If you don't have the CD, what are you planing to reinstall it again?? :tch:
You really can't just 'remove' or 'uninstall' the OS from the partition without making a big mess... all you can do is format the partition.
Best advice is to take that HDD and install it in another computer as a slave, transfer all documents and other files that need to be kept to the other drive, (or burn to CDs or DVDs). Put the drive back in his P2 and format, install the OS (however you're going to do that without a disk), and then you can transfer all the info back.
