Is the hard drive recognized by windows when you turn on the usb enclosure..? If so, run a WD hard drive utility to test the hard drive.

the hdd won't even power on...meaning the light on the enclousre will just flash the orange light rapidly and nothing else happens...it used to work the morning before this happened

Test the hard drive without the usb enclosure.

what do u mean by that? should I test the HDD alone on my desktop?
Test the hard drive without the usb enclosure.
^Yes - put in into the system temporarily (disconnect CD drive if out of IDEs)

As suggested, try the WD utility with the drive on its own to see what error it gives you. Thats the only way you will know whats going on with the drive.

Thats not a good sign. I had a HDD do this to me. Just to be certain if you have a voltmeter check and see if the hard drive is getting power. If it is, then there is a good chance the hard drive is gone, sorry :(, I know how it feels trust me.
