View Full Version : Problems accessing Wii's Shop Channel?

I can't seem to access Nintendo Wii's Shop Channel and am wondering if anyone else is having a similar problem or could recommend a solution.

I have no problems connecting to the Internet, despite having only a dial-up connection. I'm using Internet Connection Sharing over a wifi router. (For those interested, downloading the two Wii firmware updates took about six hours :) )

I'm able to connect to the Forecast Channel, but attempting to load the Shop Channel yields a continuous "Connecting. Please wait." message without any traffic activity. (Note: the only way to cancel this is to hold the unit's power button for 8 seconds.)

I'm assuming that the lack of connectivity is because of heavy traffic to Nintendo's servers and/or dropping of any connections below a certain speed threshold. Other online resources suggest using channel 11 for the wifi router, but this has not solved the issue.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.
(btw, getting high-speed is not financially feasible :) )

Maybe you just cant connect unless you have something like cable or DSL? Sort of like not being albe to play on LIVE with anythign slower than cable?

Just throwing that out there.

The shop channel takes a while to load on my Wii over highspeed light, <1 min so on dial-up i cant even imagine.

The speed is probally the problem for you. does it freeze or does the loading animation keep going?

The animation keeps going.

I guess I'll have to take the Wii over to a friend's house with wifi :)

Yeah, I was hoping to download the Opera trial. Oh well.
