I dont know if this is the right section but, Im having problems viewing gif files in my browsers (ie and firefox) and i was wondering if anyone knew why and how i can fix this problem. I can only view animated gif's as pictures and they dont appear animated.

I am Running:

Windows XP
Zonealarm Security Suite 5.5.062.011
Windows is all up to date with updates.

I think it might have started with upgrading firefox to version 1.0.6... but i included my firewall because it may be relevent.

much appreciated if anyone can help.

EDIT: I tried to turn the image.animation_mode string to normal but that doesnt seem to be the problem.

try this

in Internet Explorer goto Tools > Internet Options > Advanced

scroll down to Multimedia and put a check next to Play Animations in web pages

heres a picture of my setup

found this possible solution on another board

"it was my new trial version of Zone Alarm PRO. However, simply disabling it didn't make any difference for some reason (!?) but there is a setting which by default blocks most 'ads' - including anything animated (it obviously doesn't work consistently anyhow) but for future searchers with this problem here's what to do...

Open Zone Alarm
Go to 'PRIVACY' TAB > AD BLOCKING>CUSTOM
You'll see the relevant box to uncheck there."

I am having a similar problem but it isn't with gifs on web pages. When I go to save a gif to my computer in the appropriate folder and then go to view the gif I have lost the animation to the gif. Would the fix for this problem be similar also?

I am running windows XP as well.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.:vxd:
