:tch: I had to replace the shower knob - it is a moen that you pull to get the water and turn left or right to vary hot and cold and warm. It now is backward. ie if I turned to the left it was hot water and NOW it is cold. It is not as if there are a lot of instructions to get wrong but.... Help!

This sounds very odd... :tch:
If you replaced JUST the knob, nothing would change..
If you changed the cartridge, also nothing would change unless it's the wrong one..
But if you changed the whole assembly, then it was hooked up wrong... but I don't think this is your case.

Can you find a link that shows the part you replaced?

Hi Kath_KW,
I think you changed the Cartridge or mixed things up between the Knob and the Cartridge. Turn the Cartridge stem 1/2 turn. Replacement Cartridges and other Parts are available from from Moen Dealer or Moen in Oakville, free.

Oh yeah, I forgot you can get them in there backwards...
Probably just pull it out, turn it 180 and reinstall should fix it :bsu:

Okay - for sure it was just the knob - how do I turn the stem 1/2 turn?

OK, so you never pulled the cartridge out, right? Then nothing changed there.
If it's only the plastic knob (and not a lever) you can't alter the left and right
But if it is a lever, then maybe it was pointing up before and it's down now (or opposite of how it was)

It's hard to say without seeing what you did... like they say 'a picture is worth 1000 words' :)

Yeah - I agree about the picture thinkg - the instructions have a picture and it does say "TURN STEM 1/2 TURN" but I could not get anything to turn. The old knob broke so I could have gotten something askew - will just keep trying. It is definitely a knob NOT a lever. I checked the Moen site and it does show the replacement part I got. One thing about the instructions the picture says to do the 1/2 term but the numbered instructions do not! Thanks for all the help.

on the brass part that the handle screws onto there are two flat sides, one of the flat sides has two lines on it,make sure the two lines face up and you will be ok

Check Moen's site: http://www.moencarded.ca/help/index.html
Moen is very good about replacing cartridges for free: just take the old one to Home depot and exchange it...while this probably isn't your problem it is good info to have for later...also they used to have a help phone line...I used it several years ago to solve a similar "I thought I installed everything correctly, but it doesn't work, problem"...
