I am going to be moving to Peterborough at the end of this month and I am wondering what is a good high speed internet out there.

I have looked on CanadaIsp but there seems to be many and much of the info seems to be out of date so I am hoping someone can narrow down the options and give prices and info on how the service is. Cable would be my first option but if DSL is my only choice then ....

Do they have rogers out there? because I bought the Extreme modem

Thanks for any help or info

Fastest and easiest thing to do... call Rogers and give them your new address... ask if they have service there.

I think they have Cogeco, but they might have Rogers Now.

Don't go bell. I am on Bell high-speed and we have nothing but problems. Line speed is constantly slow and the DNS problems they have are absolutely ridiculous. I think I can access a page 1 out of 5 attempts or it's so slow loading. I am going to be changing ISP's at the end of the month once the other roomies move in.

I don't think you can get rogers out here only Cogeco which is not good. They have a crappy 15gb combined cap for the standard high-speed (5mbps) and cost you 44.95 a month. Or you can pay a whopping 69.95 for high-speed pro (10mbps) and have a 30gb cap combined. It just isn't worth it with the caps in place.

Once I finish my summer job I'll have more time to search for a good ISP out here.
Whereabouts Peterborough you moving to?

hmm doesn't sound too good

The street is Aylmer N I have not been there so I am not sure of the exact location from mapquest it appears to be semi central and close to the river ? my brother lives there and I am moving in with him they currently don't have cable or Internet.

I beleive that you had mentioned that you first choice would be to have cable access. Im not exactly sure whereabouts you live but if you follow this link to the Rogers website, you can fill in you address and stuff and find out if the service is available.

Hope it helps!

Can't find it I will try calling them later or tomorrow I think they have a fee anyways when you don't have cable TV so it will not really be worth it to get it there anyways.

I'm pretty sure it's exclusively Cogeco in Peterborough. And from people I know that have Cogeco they never had that $10. fee for only having one of their services. Roger's did drop that charge last month.

I believe too Cogeco is like Rogers in as much as it depends upon which area you live in whether your service is good or not.

As for the caps, a friend constantly goes above 100gig per month and they have yet to bother him about it.

My former business partner, who lived in Lindsay (same area), used Cogeco. Minor problems at times, but so does any other ISP. I always looked after his business affairs, personal phone matters, etc., and always had good CS from Cogeco. He moved 3 times while in Lindsay and each move went smoothly. Cogeco is your only Cable choice in that area (Lindsay/Peterborough).

EDIT: In his last move he switched to Sympatico, and that is when troubles started LOL

My daughter goes to school in Peterborough and she is on/with Sympatico.
I am pretty sure that she would not recommend it. It was all that was available in her area when she moved in.

Looks like Cogeco may be the way to go they have a 5 months for 24.95 deal goin on right now too for the service that is closest to rogers.

they also have an ultra type deal with 1000 mb down !!

I am going to give them a call in the next dew days to see what is required as for set up fees etc if any at all and if they have newsgroups not sure I can live with out them now that I have had them for 5 years or so.

Thanks to everyone who replied and if anyone else has any more comments feel free to post em up.

I have had the Cogeco now for a week and overall it is very similar other than it has a combined 15gb cab and the newsgroups are unusable much like how they were before rogers started using the giganews servers so I am not too impressed about that.

pages seem to take a little longer to load but overall download speeds are the same or sometimes better if it is a larger file coming from a good site.

I wasn't able to use my extreme modem though which really sucked too considering I paid 100 for something that is now useless but at least they provide it here for free.

I am 50/50 on it Sympatico IS supposed to be horrible out here so this is really the only decent option at the moment.

If you really need high speed and you can't get either Cable or DSL, there is also Look Wireless. It's about the same price and speed if you can get. Don't know if it's available there but it should be. Anyway, good luck.
