Hi everybody!

I'm buyin an LCD monitor... prolly 17" and want to spend around $350. Any suggestions? What brands are reputable and which aren't?

What kind of specs should I be looking for... contrast ratio??? response time etc?

Thx

I can never say this enough; people keep on asking the same question.....

See before you buy. Specifications mean nothing if the optical quality is poor.

On a related note, Samsung has a great reputation for LCDs.

Might want to read the following article to get a full understanding of the specs and how manufacturers are misleading. A high contrast ratio means nothing if the the colour reporoduction accuracy is bad. And the response time is usually misleading as response rate differ from changing from one colour to another.

I couldn't agree more!

While there are many factors which can be measured and ranked in order of excelence, there are others which are subjective, and simply down to personal preference.

If monitor 'A' looks better to you than monitor 'B', and you will never use it for any fast moving images - the response time might not even be that important.

Monitors - just like PC's have 'key features' which sometimes seem to receive more importance than they really deserve. For example, there are some monitors which have a 'better' picture when running on their analogue input than some others have when running on their DVI input!

PS - I am not suggesting that DVI is overrated, just that a good analogue CAN be better than a poor digital one.
