Hello,

I decided to re-install WinXP to clean my cluttered HD. I'm trying to install drivers for my old, but faithful USR Sportster 28.8 external modem. It worked before on WinXP and still works on the Win2k partition. However, it is not automatically recognized and selecting from a list of manufacturers is not an option, as the only entries are "Communications/Parallel cable between two computers" listed under "Standard Modem Types".

I've tried the USRobotics website, but to no avail.

I would appreciate the 00083900.inf driver file (if anyone has it) or suggestions as to how to get a generic modem driver.

Thanks in advance,
Steven

are you deleteing it from Device Manager ? Then ... shut down remove the Card and
put it a different slot.
power up .. don't let Windows install it. Cancel it
I say this only because it's an old card.
install from the Disk

I have a USR 33.6 modem (similar) - it works fine with the generic driver under XP.

This may help if one of the actual model #'s is listed. If not, do a search for that model #. Not sure if the drivers for NT would work or not.

Thanks for your replies.
andyman: it wasn't even recognized in the Device Manager :( I tried unplugging and replugging it (it's external), but to no avail.
AMD: I was trying to use the default drivers, but no generic models were listed -- only direct connections (I can't understand why).
mander: thanks for the link, but those models are too modern and their drivers don't work.

I finally found a site with the drivers: driversguide.com (registration required)

Thanks again.
