Hey folks.
Just wondering if anyone has heard much about the Chevy Aveos. What they are like to drive, fuel economy, and the like. At this point, I am simply looking for a car to go from point A to point B, but still able to do the occasonal long haul (to Quinte).
Heres to the reviews, and any other possible recomendations *raises coke*

If you can find a Cavalier, it will be much cheaper to buy.

Aveos are selling well. BillD is right, used cavaliers are cheap, but it's an aging platform and it shows. New car, you have the warranty and great pricing right now.
Haven't driven one myself but this may help:

Check into a Toyota Echo if you're looking for a car in that class, much better than a Daewoo...I mean Aveo

I meant a new one. If you can find one. I saw one advertised for $8,000.00, and around $11,00 for auto and air. Saturn Ions are around $11,000.00 to start now. I think that is cheaper than the Aveo. The money you save on the vehicle will offset the slight difference in fuel consumption.

Is this basically the same as the Pontiac Wave?
If so one of the girls at work has one for her daughter and is very happy with it, she says the mileage is great.

The Aveo is the same car as the Wave. The Daewoo brand no longer exists outside of Korea. All Daewoo cars sold internationall are branded as GMs.

going new, simply for the warranty, plus i already get the GM Employee pricing as my company is owned by PIC (the company that does quality control, etc for GM)

not really looking for a cav. im looking for something that is original (for lack of better terms) for a young person to drive

A lot of people seem to like the Chevy Aveos/Pontiac Waves. Shop around and see where you can get the best deal for either one of them.

Well my sister just recently bought an echo and she finds it amazing on gas. She lives in oshawa and on half a tank of gas she can drive to and from kitchener, to and from scarborough, and she recently just drove me back home to peterborough here. This is all on half a tank of gas whih I find is very good.

I've never driven an Echo but from the reviews I've read, they are very susceptible to crosswinds on the highway (i.e. "hang on to that steering wheel" lol), and they lack power for highway driving. For inner-city driving though, it got rave reviews...and it's a Toyota so you know you're going to get a quality, well-built and reliable car.

A buddy of mine took one to Florida and back and had no complaints, extremely happy with the mileage. Admitted a bit weak on power though.

For the mileage conscious, it would be a great car to own. Some hybrids get better mileage but I don't think the technology has been perfected quite yet.
One thing is certain. With the price of gas going up the way it is, Toyota will be selling a lot more Echos.

The fuel consumption ins’t as good as you may think. According to the ‘2005 Fuel Consumption Guild’. (I got this book from the Auto Show – so the info maybe different on the website)
http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/transportation/personal-vehicles-initiative.cfm
Aveo (city/hwy) 8.8 and 6.1 liters/100km
Cavalier 9.0 and 6.4
Both with 5 speed manual.
Echo – 6.7 and 5.2 liters/100km
Corolla - 7.1 and 5.3
I would go for the Echo – but then again it would depend on what you want, can afford, and feel comfortable driving.
