The shipping would cost more than the Mac! Good deal for any who can get it though.

Not a bad deal, but all the savings are based on mail-in rebates and a non-student is SOL getting anything for MS Office MAC.

I wonder if they would be willing to keep all the crap and just sell the system.

MS pthththhththhthththththththththth...........

I try to avoid that, sometimes I use it on client sent items, but appleworks is far more efficient. I have to give iWorks a go.

I called and they said they would sell me the system and screen for the advertised price. Is that a good deal?

YES!

That Mac Mini's list price is $629.00
http://www.apple.com/ca/macmini/

and the cheapest 17" flat panel I could find at Canada Computers' main page costs $369.00.

TOTAL: 998.00.

BTW, I don't think it's a big hassle to ge tthe Student/Teacher edition of Office. Regardless, the bundled "Appleworks" mini office suite ( http://www.apple.com/ca/appleworks/ ) can read/write Word & Excel files to/from Mac/Windows.

EDIT: Seems you can get probably the same LG monitor at Canada Comps for $295.00:
http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProdList&cmd=pl&id=MT.899

About $50.00 or so less.

Wow.. if just under a grand for that pile of poop is a 'great deal', then it is no wonder Apple can't capture any major part of the desktop market. A machine with a slow processor, and crummy video card. 40 gig HD? Is this 1998? For a GRAND?? WHAT????? This is the amazing deal? Forget it.

Right. Thanks for stoppin' by. Have fun with Windoze. Keep holdin' yer breath for a single shred of excitment over Vista -- whenever THAT sees the light of day.

I take it you know nothing about Apple systems then. Do yourself (and us) a favour and educate yourself before you share your "words of wisdom".

Not to mention knowing nothing of the specs, bundle and price of PC packages put out by the likes of Dell, HP etc. Apple isn't out of the game. And before anybody says, "I can build a PC that's faster for less than that", consider this: you could probably do it cheaper than Dell, too; and niether company is gunning for the satisfied Windows DIYer.

Not to mention that Apple's growth in computer sales is outpacing the industry for the past six months and their marketshare is increasing. Will they ever beat Windows in share? No way. Should Mac users care? No way. In the world of *******s bent on enslaving as many PCs as they can and infect them as hard as they can, a healthy 2nd Place is a good place to be. Using Windows is like computing with a bulls-eye on your back -- and you're welcome to it, Limey.

:) Remember me? Same person who would have bought a mini 6 months ago if available? Truth is, glad I didn't. They still offer the same package for the same price, and honestly, it is crap. BTW, I am not holding my breath for any form of windows, I use what works. You Mac Fans need to find something else to grip onto. OSX isn't such a hit, and Apple knows it.

Seriously now. Why would ANYONE spend a grand on that package? It is a slow machine. And Apple's OS is about to be mainstream. Face it guys, all you have left is the Ipod, and sh*t, never wanted one of those anyway. :)

Ah the appearance of deluded windows users in this forum never ceases does it?

You continue to use your infected bloatware that runs like molasses after 6 months so you need to reinstall OS, and the rest of us, er, 'mac fans' will continue to enjoy running a wicked OS.
As usual, the peecee users still... don't... get it. They haven't weaned themselves off of the MHz teat.
;)

>actually what will be interesting to see over the next 2 years, is when apple starts rolling out systems with intel processors at the same clock speeds peecee manufacturers are. With one difference of course. Sleek powerbooks etc. running the next version of OS X. That'll be interesting to watch.

The system runs great, except for some disk-based operations from time to time (4200rpm). While I agree that Apple should make it an 80GB drive, if you're looking for hardware heroin you won't get it from anybody at that price range (see attached Dell package) -- especially Apple. But so what? Whether or not the majority uses OS X, it is still the best user experience on the planet, and you cannot trust a Dell box or any x86 system will give you that. Given that the challenge before them is great in preventing hacked versions to run on any x86 PC (and the current one is just a beta), Apple will make every effort to keep it exclusive.

A Dell with flat panel at the same price range will get you a faster CPU, twice the disk capacity, shared video RAM (Mac has dedicated on a GPU -- and the system uses it), no Firewire, no anti-virus subscription (I added these to this system), NO BLUETOOTH OR WIRELESS KEYBOARD (in that bundle), and no office bundle -- which I did not add to the Dell, and would have pushed that package over a grand. This bundle has MS Office. And yet, all Mac Minis have Appleworks -- and it can read/write Word/Excel.

In my opinion (yours may vary), the Mac Mini works great for its intended uses. I got one. It works great for me.
