I think there's something wrong with my hard drive (specs in sig). It is pretty much always loading fiercly and I don't know why. It sometimes makes things lag as well. It's even made my computer freeze altogether and I had to restart.

Is there anything I can do or test?

Thanks.

Run Western Digital's diagnostics utility - found on their website.

Those are classic symptoms of early disk surface failure (bad sectors and read/write errors next). A bad ATA/SATA controller can cause the same problems though - I would make sure that it's not sharing an IRQ with any other crucial component.

Well the drive is like... brand new, so I don't know. I'll get the diagnostic.

How do I do that? lol

Start - Run - type in msinfo32. Look under Hardware Resources - IRQ's

Make sure no Trojans are installed. I found a funny folder on one of my partitions. I think someone was trying to access my computer but it never worked.

New hardware can fail out of the box - for hard drives, all it takes is a spec of dust on the disc. They're supposed to be manufactured in an ultra-clean environment, but nothing’s perfect.

Follow sybil's advice regarding checking IRQs.

interrupt requests are from the processor..... means a program would have to request an interrupt.... so the hd can respond with some data.... does it access data while in bios? or while an OS hasnt been loaded yet? if not chances are you've got software (probably some p2p or trojan etc..) that's accessing data.

Sounds to me like there's just too many programs running. Start it up in safe mode, see if hard drive still sounds like it's trying to fit a softball in a bottle.

The diagnostic came up clean and there is no spyware or viruses.

Here is what came up for my IRQ's. I figured it would be easier to post a pic of them because I don't know what I'm looking for.
