Since my kids got iPods for xmas, I've noticed that we have multiple copies of the same mp3 files in different folders on their hard drive.
Does anyone know of a way to consolidate all the files in one folder and then delete the duplicates? In some cases there appears to be up to 6 copies of the same song!
As always, thanks in advance. B32.

My daughter was doing the same thing. I did a search for all .mp3 files and deleted the duplicates.

Solution: Delete them all, and train them to check first before downloading a duplicate. :tooths:

I've done the search part, but I wondered if anyone knew of a way to quickly pick out the duplicates to delete them. It seems like when they were duplicated the names changed a little bit too.

What we did was give them a specified time frame to clean up their own lists/folders...(only 2 daughters here), and then all remaining MP3's were being deleted. Worked surprisingly well, as they went through and actually deleted quite a few that they had lost interest in, the others were in their own folders.

Maybe if I tell my girls it some new MSN type game, lord knows they can put in a full 8 hour shift with that.
