Is there a list out yet that lists what services can be safely disabled in Vista?

Not sure if this helps, but here are some tweaks you can do. http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/?p=132

I am begining to hate Ultimate.
I keep getting that corrupt file balloon repeatedly. Tells me spyware doctor is corrupt even though I copied over ok files from the other OS on the other drive & it still does it.
It tells me a don't have access when I am the ONLY user & logged in as admin.
Is there a setting somewhere that makes it have access to EVERYTHING??

Disable User Account Control

User Account Control (UAC) can be annoying and get in your way. You can disable User Account Control, simply do the following:

1. Click Start, and then click on "Control Panel".
2. In the Search box, type "User Accounts"
3. You will see a green entry that says "User Accounts" with an icon next to it, click on it.
4. Click on "Turn User Account Control on or off".
5. If User Account Control prompts you to allow the action, click on "Continue".
6. Uncheck "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer"
7. Click on OK, you will be prompted to reboot.

I just did a fresh install of it & it tells me it's corrupted.
I tried 2 different browsers.

Ok, I did another clean install on a freshly formatted partition & installed TweakVI BUT, the trial doesn't let me do much.

Has anyone found an un-needed services list other than what was posted yet?
I want to get my RAM usage down from just under 600 and the amount of services down from 48.

Why do you want to get the RAM usage down?

That's what it's there for, it's meant to be used.

It's how the system or the application handles the RAM available that's important.
If whatever you're running uses 100% of RAM, so what?

I personally don't like having 50 processes running when a lot of them are simply unneeded.

Plus, if the system is already using all of the available RAM, wouldn't say, starting a game crash the machine as it would be out of memory?
Flatout2 takes over 300megs on it's own.

I agree, as long as they are truly unneeded.
Just more to go wrong. :)

As far as RAM goes though it's a little different.
It's more a matter of efficiency.
How applications and the operating system to-gether manage the available RAM.

It's the management of the RAM that is important, not a low utilization.

You could have an app only using 20% of the RAM available, but if it's constantly using the hard disk, that's not going to be so good.

Better an app using 100% of available RAM and not having to access the hard drive.

Unused RAM, well it just sits there.
Vista supposedly manages RAM better than XP , but time will tell.
