Im having problems using an existing DVD drive that i had on another system. Im pretty sure it is the jumper settings. It is not on the same channel as the primary boot drive. its on the second channel, and im assuming it has to be set as the master on that channel. But i dont know what the jumper settings are, and i cant find them anywhere. The drive is a LG DRD-8120B. Is there just general generic jumper settings or are they manufacture specific?
Thanks alot guys, anything will help

Looking at the owners manuals on the LG site http://gb.lgservice.com/index_b2c.jsp which I trust that you checked first before placing this request, I can see that they do not specifically state the settings. They seem to assume a certain knowledge which you (no criticism intended or implied) just don't have.
You can see from the instructions that the location of the jumpers on the back plate of the drive is identified as the 6 pins next to the IDE interface, however although the instructions refer to them as Master, Slave, and Cable select, they do not specifically identify them.
The pin settings are usually abreviated to MA, SL, and CS (or something along those lines) - but whatever abreviations are used, it is usually quite easy (for English speakers anyway) to match the abreviations to the three options.
On most (all?) of the drives I have used, they have been stamped into the metal case next to the jumpers - some have also had the details printed on one of the labels on the drive - so I'm afraid that it is possibly time to remove the drive and have a good look on the case for the information.
Another point to be aware of, is that manufacturers can insist that their drive is connected to a specific location when the drives BIOS is to be updated (mine insists on the Secondary Master) so do take this into account.
A final point to be aware of, is the location of the cables. You cannot always just connect and rely on the jumpers, there is a connector for the motherboard at one end, and a connector for the Slave in the middle, and the connector for the Master at the other end. To make things easier, the Master and Slave connectors are usually closer together than the slave and motherboard.
Some people (wrongly) think that the placement is only critical when Cable Select is used; while it is critical with cable select, I have has situatons where there have been problems with hardware (identified as Master and slave by their jumper settings) which have been resolved by simply moving each item to the 'correct' location.
I trust this helps.

Try here (http://help.nec-computers.com/it/pib.asp?second=on&platform=spec_DVDR_LG_DRD8120B&layout=1409). Look under Settings.
