ATI's Radeon X1950 XTX is the fastest single-chip 3D card that you can buy. Unfortunately, with Windows Vista and its accompanying gaming technology, it's going to become obsolete in just five months. ATI adjusted the price of the Radeon X1950 XTX accordingly, but at $450, it's still not an insignificant purchase. We recommend it only if money is no object. "

It's true. The R600 is ATI's next gpu which supports DX10. It was supposed to be released in Jan, but I think they pushed it to March of this year.

It's a known fact that the X19xx stuff in DX9. How they figured out that it'll be obsolete in five months is beyond me. Sure you won't get DX10 effects, but the card will still run in DX9 mode in Vista...Infact I'm running a x1950pro in Vista without problems.

Are you surprised? DX_whatever has to be enabled on the cards. just like you couldn't make DX8 cards DX9. nVidia is the same way; their DX10 cards are the 8800 series.

Don't worry so much about it.

The game makers aren't going to shoot themselfs in the foot by just making for just d10.

Its going to be years before its the norm and by then its going to be upgrade time.

Well I invested over 1400.00 (1yr ago:huu: ) for 2 cards x1900xtx and x1900xt in crossfire mode and miss out on the higher graphics of the X600 in Direct X10 mode. Don't get me wrong... these card are great. But what I've seen what Direct X10 will give future games and its incredible.:)

But it will take another year or two before game developers start taking advantage of all of DX 10's features. The games coming out this year only take advantage of a few of its features. They are still all heavily coded in DX 9.

The only exclusive game to DX 10 so far is Alan Wake, which will be released by MS.

Not to mention its going to take some time just to iron out the bugs and as we have seen visita is hardly bug free.
