Hey, I just got a Mac from someone to play with for awhile... It's a Performa 6320 'Power PC' circa 1996 :d

First thing I did was tear it apart and clean it out... it's about 2 lbs lighter now... Now I have to figure out how it goes back together.. :laf: j/k

Now to get it to work... apparently it boots normally, but the mouse doesn't work... and I'm not sure where to start when it comes to Macs.. :hsh:

Any ideas / links / thoughts welcomed

Heh... It's OK... I found the reason they couldn't get the mouse to work...
Once it's plugged into the keyboard it does work :tooths:

nice day for relaxing, so I only drop in for a few moments. ;)

That, is what you would call a boat anchor.

If you want to play around a little in OS X, the lowest you can go is a blue and white G3, which goes for about 125-175 these days.

But free is good Tim. I think that is the first criteria here. :)

Yeah, I know it's an anchor... slow processor; small HDD, etc... but hey, it's free and it's an entry point for playing with a Mac...
Or would you rather I go back to playin with my PeeCees  :p

oh no, not that... ;)

Really. Sure it's a fun thing to fool with a performa. But keep in mind it is not even close to what a mac is now. I don't mean the speed either. OS whatever you are running is like windows 1.0 compared to Tiger.

Just giving you a thought if you ever wanted to fool with Tiger you can get a very cheap machine to play should it get a little addictive. I have one as a server in my studio.

Note how easy it is to install and uninstall programs. It's still the same in Tiger. No registry to corrupt. :)

Well I would dare try to compare an almost 10 year old Mac to one of today...
That's like comparing a PC of 6 years ago to one of today :d

OS is 7.5 :(

It's more of getting used to the Mac ways... just gotta get used to the one button ball mouse :p

Have fun Dan! I have a Performa 6360 and I love it. Just don't ask question about it on a Mac forum (anywhere), they'll just laugh at you. :)

I know, I know... it's like saying "I've got a 386" :d
But it's allot faster than a 386 :)

I'm sure many Mac guys here are having a giggle over it too... but hey, it's just to get my feet wet ;)

yea thats the trouble with old macs. You can't pop a usb mouse in with all the buttons you want. Wonder if you put a serial mouse on that thing. ctrl key + click is your friend. :)

the 6360 is a jaguar compared to the 6320 ;)

Hah... yeah, I know crtl + click... just have to get used to it.
Mind you, that's the only shortcut I know :mbx:

One of the first things I said was "what, no USB?" :eri:

I find OS X to be a little faster than windows XP in booting but that's not a factor I think about much. It also depends how old the windows installation is, and how bloated the registry etc. I have factory installs that's quite long in the tooth that are faster than fresh windows installs. ;)

Yea I'm no real fan of those mice either. Apple now has a multi button mouse with a neat scroll ball on it. Called the mighty mouse of course. ;)
