View Full Version : A new animal
But I dont have to feed it. :d
I bought one of these about a month ago, they are pricey, but with four extremely long haired furkids I found it well worth it. So far it's everything it's cracked up to be..and then some. I was skeptical but now just extremely pleased with it. Strange looking, extremely quiet and very versatile, the suction is amazing.

I was sceptical about the Dyson as well, Consumer Reports said that other vacuums could do as good a job for less money. Nice to have some first hand information. :)

Your place is too feminine. :)
Spike must be gay.
Observation: One way to "clear" a room. ;)

I went from one of these to the Dyson.

The Bissell is almost two years old, I keep all the filters clean etc. I noticed it wasnt doing as good a job lately. When I bought the Dyson, I cleaned normally with the Bissell then went over it again with the Dyson. The Dyson picked up as much again on the first pass. As long it doesnt lose suction like the Bissell (and my previous HOover) I'll be happy. Only one washable filter, easy empty dirt chamber (no touch) lot's of attachments.

Whaddya expect I'm a girl!
Spike had nothing to do with the decorating, besides he's an IT now. He doesnt care one way or the other. :d

Do the cats hide when you start it up?

You don't see any of them in the picture, do you? :)

Probably, although I am not going to be the first to try it, would you like to volunteer??? :d I think that's what that big long handle is for?

They vacate for any vacuum thats running, unless they are off the floor.

Leather furniture and hardwood/ceramic floors eliminate the need for a good vac. I have looked at the Dysons however, mainly because I'm looking for a quiet vac. It's good to know that they live up to the hype. Purple is great!!

They're pretty quiet, my Bissell was much quieter than my Hoover and the Dyson is quieter still and much lighter and easy to carry up stairs. I use mine for so much more than just floors (I have both leather and upholstered furniture) but I use the soft brush to get the white cat hair off the white leather, the dust off the black leather etc. My cats hair is so long and it flies, I have ceiling fans I use it for, blinds and drapes, this one came with two power heads for low reach (under beds) and the other for stairs..I can even dust with this one. The handle detaches for high reaching. It's excellent on bare (ceramic) floors. I did buy some attachments after I decided I was keeping it. The attachments have to be bought from Dyson and I did that online.
They have an all floors model, which is around $499. and at Costco it comes with a kit, apparently only at Costco, but it's not purple. ;) It's yellow.

I purchased mine from Costco when they fist started selling them.. (DC14 Yellow Trim)
To tell the truth I’m not really that impressed with it..
I find the suction is not what I was expecting and I'm tired of taking the stupid thing apart when I want to use the wand thingy.. (It now resides in my basement and I kick the damn thing every time I walk past it lol)
Last week I went and bought a Hoover Wind Tunnel (for a quarter of the price) and so far It out sucks the Dyson hands down.. (Blue and ugly but it works well)

You should return the Dyson to Costco, even if you don't have the receipt they should take it back. Just tell them it sucks and sucking.

Good idea Lesley..I've heard of people returning bigger ticket items after almost a year. Failing that I'd be contacting Dyson directly.
You could always break some ribs mitch. ;)

Sure, they have such buying power that they have their suppliers by the 'short and curlies'.
You don't think they eat that loss do you?? ;)

It's one of the reasons I shop at Costco as much as possible, any problem with anything and you can take it back. If you buy a bag of apples and they suck you can return them, it's that simple. The only thing there's a limit on as far as I know is computers and it's still better than the competition.
