Can the fax line be hooked up to a regular phone jack or is it different for a fax machine ? The manual talks of RJ 11 and RJ 14 .

Fax machine uses the same connection as a phone.

RJ11 and RJ14 are identical save for the fact the RJ11 has 2 wires and RJ14 has 4. It's only important if you have 2 phone numbers in your house and I'm not refering to the special ring number you can get.
