Are there any flavors of linux that will work well as a media station? something i've sadly found out is that my TV doesn't work well with fedora or Ubuntu (might be the debian core?), the issue is you need a regular screen to log on, I've done just about ever how-to on getting it to work and it still doesn't seem to get going properly (flaky screen ect)
So i'm here looking for a Tube TV (svideo) friendly flavor anyone have any idea?

not real sure what you mean you need a regular screen to log on.
though not recommended in some distros you can set it up to auto
log on a user.

There is a MythTV/Fedora distribution specifically designed just for that. Its on my "gotta have a look" list, but have yet to do so. The link escapes me right now, but you can likely Google for it.
If your primary concern is TV interface, I would install that and then add the packages you also need (ie; OpenOffice) after the fact. I can watch TV using Mplayer with my Hauppage card, but that was only a recent development (have to confess, it took some doing). Output should be easier, but again, its on my To-Do list.

Ok i went a little over board when i said media station, all i want to really do is use my 30" some odd TV screen using S-video on my 6600GT =) for everything normal computing and to watch movies
There's a couple more things but that just required me tinkering with drivers ect
I've tried using ubuntu for this but it still seems to dislike my graphic card or doesn't like my TV i've followed 2 different how-to's and one worked of course the one that only works after i've logged in so i'm stuck with a blank screen on my TV
:mbx: :tch: I do love a challenge!
