I recharged the battery twice, as mostly I keep the phone on off.

But when I went to recharge recently, couldnt get the battery to charge at all. Tried everything I could think of. The battery cant be dead already.

Phoned Nokia who advised me to take it back to Future Shop to have the battery tested, maybe it needed rebooting.

Has anyone else encountered such a problem? Would appreciate hearing any input on this. Many thanks in advance.

when you supply power to the phone via the charger adapter. does the phone display indicate that its charging?

It could be the adapter. Do you have the car adapter? That would be a good test to see if you have a faulty home adapter.

Thanx for such a speedy reply FBI.

No, the phone doesnt display any of those lines. There is no response at all.

Yes, may be the adapter. I dont have a car adapter, so will be taking both the phone and the adapter to Future Shop on Friday. If that doesnt help, then Nokia said for me to send it to Virgin who will then forward it to Nokia, because of course it is still under warranty.

But I was wondering if this was something common or just some more of my unusual luck with gadgets.

ps. it is a Nokia 3155i

Didn't you have a problem with the phone battery right from the get-go, Mandy? If I remember rightly, you had to take it to FS to have the battery installed because it wouldn't go in properly. Maybe whatever "fixed" it is broken now?

My, what a good memory you have Tweakie, and thanx for reminding me.

It actually wasnt the battery I had a problem installing. It was the phone back cover didnt fit properly so the battery wont charge unless the battery cover is completely on.

Now I cant get the battery cover off which is why Im going back to FS tomorrow and also have them check the charger.

But am still wondering if this is a common or uncommon problem. All my tech problems seem to be in a category by themselves, I notice.

Many thanx for your input.

Sounds like you may have recieved the wrong battery for your phone, many of them look identical except for the thickness which would explain the problem of putting on / removing the back cover. I have a nokia here as well and when I bought a spare battery thats what I bought, the cover has to be forced onto the phone

Proper way of charging a new phone.

1- On the first time use, charge the battery to the full power

2- Drain the power

3- Charge it again

4- Drain it again

5- Charge again and then you can charge and stop anytime you like

Since this was a new phone, the battery came with the phone and even before it was charged for the 1st time, I had a hard time getting the cover on.

Thanks for all the input here. Very helpful. And thanks for those instructions on charging a battery, but didnt see those outlined in the instruction book. But will certainly follow them when I get a replacement battery.

Update on the battery problem.

Took the phone back to FS and he snapped the cover off with no problem at all. Rebooted the battery, and after recharging, phone is now working fine (at least for now).

He showed me a few times how to get the cover off, but didnt work for me, so he told me just to bring it back if I ever needed to reboot again. Also, he told me that a battery should last 4 or 5 years.

So I should be all set for awhile anyway.

Thanks again for the input here. Very helpful.

Mandy, do you have a friend that you see regularly or a good neighbour that you could get to do this for you?
It seems that a trip to FS takes some time before you get around to it.

It's great that they help you out, but if it's inconveniant to go there, and you need to use your phone, it would make sense to have someone close to you be able to do it for you ... should it happen again ;)

Actually, FS is very close to me and I am in and out quite frequently checking out this and that (right now am checking out Sharp HD LCD TVs).

However, I went by what Nokia advised me to do which was to take the phone and charger back to FS and have them check it out.

Yes, in future, could have friends/neighbours get the cover off for me, if it ever happens again. First tho, I will try to do it myself as I always treat these problems as a challenge and enjoy solving them if I possibly can.

Thanks for the suggestion.

OK, I thought it wasn't that convieniant to you.
It seemed like it was several days before you were able to get out to FS... and I 'assumed'... :hsh:

You seem to have it all under control... carry on :)
