Me and my band are starting to look at PA's to sing through so I'm looking for info and suggestions on good PA's and speakers with enough room and power for 4-8 mics. I don't really know a single thing about PA's specifically, but I do know I love tube amps so good tube PA's would be nice to know about.
Nothing over $1500 though.

One member here (Tim) is a musician. Hopefully he'll see this and give you some advice :)
I smash the crap out of drums. I blow UP PAs, not set them up.;)
I don't know about tube PAs. Haven't seen those in a while. I do know one thing, I have a saying about Peavey. 'Friends don't let friends use Peavey. On the road those things drove us to drink. They're HORRIBLE.
If you plan to use 4-8 mics, get plenty of headroom if you are fairly loud, or you'll just clip it all the time and drive yourself nuts. (what are you using 8 mics for?)
I think in our space we share with a couple bands we have a yorkville sound powered board, and a couple bins with a 15 and a horn, and a couple small monitors. I think it's about 500 watts. It works great. And we're really really loud.

I've rented some Yorkville 250Watt speakers, and they were amazing. Band is saving up for them now.
My vote is for Yorkville. We use ALOT of Yorkville equipment from patch cords, to my guitar amp, to stands, and they are all top quality.
Yorkville is also Canadian. I believe their head office is in Pickering.

Just looked it up. It was a Yorkville NX250 that we used. I think they retail for a bit over $500. So a pair of those and a small mixer for about $300 should do you fine. Then if you want later you can buy some floor monitors or something.
