I am looking for free solutions to protect against spyware. I know Ad-ware is one of them, but but be executed manually. Are there any good freeware/shareware that are realtime, but don't take away from the cpu cycles? ie. run during idle.

I use those two predominately. AntiSpyware is resident as well as Spyware Doctor but I also use SpyBot and Spywareblaster resident

I run FFox as my regular browse as well.

Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware will be available at no charge to licensed users of Windows. Users who validate their Windows install through WGA will be allowed to download the AntiSpyware beta, as well as the full standalone version of AntiSpyware when it releases to the web. This has not changed since Bill Gates announced this information at the RSA conference in February.

Thanks for the info. Good to know.
I had read somewhere that MS was working on an anti-virus/anti-spyware suite that would include the current MS anti-spyware program. That suite would not be available for free.

The MS anti-spyware program is quite good but to be safe, I would use at least two different programs.

Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware (Enterprise Edition)

The enterprise version of Windows AntiSpyware is targeted to companies who want to centrally manage their Windows AntiSpyware infrastructure. The enterprise version of Windows AntiSpyware will be available for a cost (which has not been determined yet). For users who want more services including AntiVirus, computer backup, and AntiSpyware we will be offering Windows OneCare live. Windows OneCare Live is currently in beta, but when it releases to the web it will be available to users with a cost.
