When I opened the computer (not this one), the setting were very low, to the point that, when I wanted to change the resolution of my screen area, I could not get to it, someone once gave me the solution for it, can you please help me again?? it`s a win98se.

Have you tried accessing it in safe mode? Are you using the appropriate driver or just the PnP driver in windows?
Check your device manager and see if there is more than one loaded.
Not sure what else to recomend at this point.

I think it was handyman who told me to touch "Tab" and "Enter" and it will bring me to a normal setting, but I`m not sure.

I think you mean andyman, he's around so he may answer this again for you. I'm not sure of the hotkey controls for that in win98se, never used them myself.

That`s the thing, I can not get to that slide to change it, the page resolution is so big, two lines takes all the screen on the monitor.
andyman

the ok button should be highlighted by default
Buka12

tab and enter does nothing for me in 98se.
you must be below 640x480 how that is I don't know.
edit:
I was just thinking the same thing Andyman

you mean to go to display properties/setting, then hit tab and enter??
display properties/setting adjust the resolution and just hit enter (default is ok ?) if not hit tab and enter.
going from memory here and it's been a long time
worst case pull the card boot shutdown put the card in and let it install it's self again.

Ken your running 98 when you change the resolution is the ok button highlited ? if so Buka12 just has to hit enter

if the screen is to large Andyman Buka12 may not be abel to see
where the tab has sent him or what setting is. removing the driver
and reinstalling seems to be the way to go.

yes it dose if he can see to adjust it he can then change the setting it will
change on enter then ask if this is really what you want hit enter will save the
change.

I`m going to check. (I`m running between the basement and upstairs - kind of tiring..)
andyman
08-23-2005, 12:31 PM
yes that's is why you use the Tab to flip between functions
just checked XP and the OK Button is highlited so all I would have to do is change the res and hit enter But if Cancel is default then you use the Tab to get to ok then hit enter

ok your best bet is to re-install
turn off the comp pull out the video card boot up
it will fail.
turn off put the card back in and boot and install the video card again.

give me a moment going to run through the settings for a blind run

thanks Ken .. Apply was what I was after
so if OK was highlighted then two Tabs would put him on Apply
but if it's so big he can't even change the res a re-install is in order.

bring up property's (left-click on desktop)
hit tab 6 times.
hit right arrow 5 times
hit tab 4 times
hit left arrow key 4 times
hit enter
hit enter again
if you see full screen hit enter
if you don't see your screen leave it it will go back.
this should put you at 640x480 allowing you to see
to make proper changes.
edit:
I did this with the monitor off it made the change from where it was to
640x480.

if for some reason the driver supports 3xx by 4xx
some older cards did you need to make the following
changes to the info I gave you.
bring up property's (left-click on desktop)
hit tab 6 times.
hit right arrow 5 times
hit tab 4 times
hit rite arrow key 1 time
hit enter
hit enter again
if you see full screen hit enter
if you don't see your screen leave it it will go back.
this should put you at 640x480 allowing you to see
to make proper changes.

lol ya that wont work well. its strange that the screen didn't come back
on its own. if its an older dos type game it is possible it could be run
from a dos boot disk with the proper paths set. but maybe its best
to try and find an updated version of the game or one like it.
fiddling with paths and the config / autoexec file to set the game to run
from floppy boot only can be time consuming.

One of my kids gave my huby his old computer, only a pentium, with 100MHZ 1.5gb and win98 on it, with an old video and sound card, we decided it will belong only to him for his financial work, I told him not to let my son touch the computer.well, he did not listen to me ( I know my kids, loading every kind of junk on the computer), and that`s what happend, my son installed a yesteryear game, and I set half a day fixing the computer (this was the second problem, I had another one early in the morning). so, I really don`t care about the game. anyway, thanks again, for helping me.
