A couple of friends are raving about Limewire. Is downloading the program safe from adware/spyware?

Thanks!

There's no spyware as long as you download it from the official Website. A few rogue Websites are selling it and bundling it with spyware. This is the official Website: http://www.limewire.com

smirnoff, that URL is for the Ares file sharing app. As long as you don't choose to install the navbar, there is no spyware with that application either.

Bearshare Lite (http://www.bearshare.com/lite/) utilizes the same network, and it doesn't have spyware either.

your facts are wrong.

area doesn't come with spyware of any sort.

what you have it confused with is area galaxy pro which is a ripped off version. (and it installs it even if you chose no)

limewire can be found without spyware but i never liked its use of java since it eventually uses more and more of the computer resources.

OK, so Limewire has no spyware then? I've been thinking of installing it but people are telling me it's loaded with Spyware.

What this about Ares? So Ares Galaxy is OK but Ares Galaxy Pro has spyware?

limewire and ares both don't have spyware if you get them from the source.

problem is there our people out there that are less then honest and setup other websites with spyware loaded versions.

just be careful where you get your stuff from.

I use both Limewire and Ares Lite and there are no spyware although one of my antispyware programs detects Limewire as a spyware but I don't think it is.

p.s. I don't know about the full version of Ares but Ares Lite is just fine.

Maybe the new version of Ares no longer has the navbar option, but it used to. I downloaded Ares from the official website and at that time it had the option. It's nothing nasty, but it's adware.

Limewire connects to the Gnutella network (average online userbase is approximately 1.8 million) and Ares connects to the Warez network. I'm not sure how many people connect to the Warez network but I think there are about 500,000 connected to it at any given time.

that was never the real site.

this is the problem with smaller programs you can never be sure whats up.
