using Debian linux I had this problem till now it has been
a real bugger to understand. I did many searches and found
nothing. Of course I fond nothing in the way of help I wasn't looking
for the right thing or in the right place. I have been stumped on this
problem for a month. I have installed and re installed edited till I was
blue in the face. Saying to myself if linux is so great why is it so bloody
hard to set up a simple network......

it's as simple as understanding how to connect two computers.
both computers need to be set correctly to get the network
up and running. the problem was I already have a network
two win98se boxes and they worked just fine.
i thought it had to be linux causing the problem not my working
windows network. boy was I wrong...........

the problem was I could go on the linux box and see and use both
the win98se boxes but if I went on the win98se box and try to access
the linus box it was a no go.

I had to rethink what the problem was so I decided to look into
the windows boxes it turns out you need a user name and password
in the windows boxes ok I made one and to my surprise I ended
up with no network at all it was gone.

well now that stumped me to no end till I decided to delete the
users and the pwl file I recreated the users and gave that a try
this time I had the linux box and both win98se boxes.

the final problem was a corrupt pwl file.

I am happy again:)

one site stands out in my searches to find the problem
and evan put a name to it. (google is your friend)

I joined a forum as well and have been given great help
in the area of understanding linux.

I am still learning and now I can move on to bigger and better things:)

Glad you found the answer to the problem Ken and not just give up and say Linux is too hard! Who would have known or even guessed that it would be a Windows file problem and not Linux at all! :)

yes thanks CP.
I don't like a problem to get the better of me and to that end I will bang at a
problem till I win:) or need a new keyboard:)
I am sure I will have many more adventures with linux. I have done nothing
except work on this problem and now I can move on.
