Why is it that I can't capture a still image of a video being played on Windows Media Player. I also tried Realplayer, and DivX. I know Quicktime works but why doesn't the others?
It might be an overlay issue, I'm not sure how to get around it. Maybe use Windows Media Encoder or some other app to try and grab a still. Or use a video editing app to grab a frame, you should be abel to do it from Virtual Dub which is free.

Fraps does it, Just use the Screenshot capture button in it, it will then save the image for you

The reason for this is due to Hardware Acceleration being enabled. But you can turn this feature off.
In Windows Media Player, go to Tools > Options > "Performance" tab. Move the Hardware Acceleration Slide to None.
