My Security centre message

"windows firewall setting can not be shown because the associated service is not running"

that "service" is now Norton, (and it IS running)
It used to be McAfee. I think that the windows firewall thinks Mcafee should be running, but I uninstalled Mcafee to use Norton instead.

any suggestions?

thanks

Are you using XP? I believe the reference is to "Windows Firewall" and no other. If you've disabled it from boot then that service isn't running. I believe ther should be a checkbox option saying "Don't show this message again"

I have no use for WindowsXP firewall,
With that said,

Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Managment > Services and Applications > Services > Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing(ICS)
Double-click Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing(ICS),
Select Automatic
