Does anyone know how to correct the situation when playing back DVD on Windows Vista (I'm running the business edition) that the edges of jagged? I notice this when the picture is moving slowly or sometimes on a still frame, where the camera isn't moving much or at all. I tried Nero Showtime and VideoLAN, but in both apps, the video remains, the same. I tried playing with the deinterlace options in hopes that I can figure out the correct settings, but in either case it still doesn't work.

My system confiruation is a Dell Inspirion 6400, with the ATI Radion Mobility x1400. I already tried both drivers from ATI, Dell, and the Microsoft download and all of them results in the same poor video quality.

From what I can tell, playing WMV, Dvix, Xvid and Quicktime movie seems to be fine. It only seems to affect DVD movie playback, the DVD are not HD movies, they are just regular DVD disc.

Just as a added note, DVD playback on WindowsXP is just fine in any DVD playback software application.

If anyone can help, please let me know.

Vista has had DRM issues with video playback, but it is limited to HD which you are not using.

Since it seems to be limited to DVDs and not videos stored on your hard drive, can you try a different optical drive / different cables? You stated that it is fine in XP, is this on the same hardware?

Try a different DVD software player like PowerDVD by Cyberlink. The VISTA DVD codec sux.
