Does anyone know of a good place where I can get a .ca domain for fairly cheap $10-$14 CAD? Looking for a place that accepts paypal transactions also.

Thanks,

I've used namespro.ca a bunch of times to register dealguild.ca. I'm not sure if they accept Paypal though. But, as has already been mentioned I've usually used GoDaddy for .com's, .net's etc. I've used Namecheap quite a few times too.

Just wondering, is the 6-9 dollars (depending on where you go for your domain) for a private whois really worth it? Why not just enter fake information on registration? Can someone educate me, beside the fact that my account may be canceled if the information is fake.

Well, for .ca's they make you verify your user information, so I'd think you'd want to stay legit there, or they might take your domain away. I paid for the private whois thing, but it's a one time thing, iirc, for all of the domains you have registered with Namespro, so if you have a bunch of them it works out to be a pretty cheap way to protect your privacy while still being legit.

Keep in mind that Namespro's private whois still shows your name though, as a whois of DealGuild.ca (http://www.whois.net/whois_new.cgi?d=dealguild&tld=ca) shows. While Namecheap's whoisguard is a little more thorough and blocks that info too, as a whois of DealGuild.com (http://www.whois.net/whois_new.cgi?d=dealguild&tld=com) shows.

I haven't tried doing any fake name registered .ca's, before, but I don't think it's worth it. Pay your $6 if you're worried about people finding out who you are and how to contact you. Or, if it's just going to be a personal website for your friends and family, I wouldn't even bother with it.

www.namespro.ca (http://www.namespro.ca)
for .ca domains, and they accept PayPal.

I also use www.domainsatcost.ca (http://www.domainsatcost.ca) and they have free privacy included. Yes, your personal name shows, but the rest is kept private.

for .com/.net/etc. (not .ca) you could use www.1and1.com (http://www.1and1.com) , they accept PayPal and you also get free private registration - and it is private with no name showing. You can manage your .com from the 1and1 control panel and point the DNS to any server host you want (you do not need to host with 1and1).

Personally, my main domain registrar for everything but .ca, is NameCheap (http://www.namecheap.com/?aid=88&rid=180400). Free privacy and the best system going as far as I am concerned. Best control panel and ease of use. I personally own well over 100 domains.

Whatever you do DO NOT fake your registration details.

Let me ask you guys for advice.

I want to create a message forum and website for youths in Canada. Would you go with the .ca or go for a .net or a .org? I am thinking go with the .ca because you will be dealing with Canadian youth 99% of the time, although a .org or a .net would be okay also. What would you do?

.net is like an afterthought because you couldn't get the .com
Skip the .org
.com is usually used because everyone thinks "dot com"
.ca does indicate Canada and you may want to seriously consider it if your target audience is Canadian youth. I have many .ca domains.BUT, if you get the .ca, and the .com is also available, grab it to protect your website interests. That way you can setup the .com to auto-redirect to your .ca website.

If your domain is something that can be easily misspelled, I'd recommend getting some of the misspells of it too. I think we have maybe 15 or 20 variants of our domain name registered (actually probably more...:))
